After much deliberation, I decided to retrain cadee to heel. She was naturally circling behind me, like I've always allowed Charlie to do. And while in the field it never bothered me, in training it was a pain in the ass. Unfortunately I had to break an old habit that I essentially taught her by allowing it. But we're pretty much there now

I thought the tight circle behind was "standard?" My oldest is more like Cadre in the video but my youngest(better retriever) does the circle as was taught.

My dog almost always circles behind me to the right then heels to the left. Guess that's wrong but it's never bothered me. Learned something new today.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

Yes. Both dogs heel to the left.

The youngest passes me on the left, circles quick then walks straight to heel. Thought that was standard?

Don't know wrong for right but with my yellow lab I make him swing in in front of me. Found when they tend to circle behind me it's usually a tight squeeze in the blind and in turn trample everything. He usually comes straight to me then kicks his butt around counterclockwise to end up right at left heel. Just works for us.

as cadee did in my video?...that's how I'm interpreting your post. Charlie circles around me on my right and heels on my left. I broke cadee of this. Sounds like you and I are on the same page

Ahh. I get you. Lol. For some reason I thought you were saying you didn't want her to do that little loop. I was scratching my head thinking you wanted her to "about face" and moonwalk into heel.

We are on the same page. I'm still laughing at my interpretation of what I thought you said.

Haha. The guy's lab pup I train with, spins around in front of him then hops backward into heel. Funny as hell to watch

Agreed 100%

Someone posted up a video a little while back. I think it had FF in it, but not sure. Not sure who's dog it was, but as soon as a shot was fired that dog was already in the water and getting shot over. I hate that more than anything when it comes to hunting over a dog.

I like the dogs that are in the middle of the decoys looking around within a Nano second of when the first safety is switched off.

I hunt with a lot of dogs that break before the first shot is even fired. Gotta suck for the dogs ears.
