I took tonight off at work and took him up to the old rabbit spot we used to hunt when I was a kid. It hurt but he's in a better place now.

It sucks, but rest easy knowing you did the right thing.

I loved that damn dog and it wasn't even mine:). He was one cool dude. It all comes around though in the end. Who knew you'd have his grandson as your new best buddy and hunting partner.

Yeah, That's the real reason I bred Mave. Having his little boy running around helps the idea that he won't be around forever. Putting down catcher was tough. Just thinking about the day Maverick has to go is really fucking with me bad.

You made the right choice. My dog Lexi went everywhere with me. She kept me in the blind when I really didnt want to go. I've had her jump out of the boat when I snapped off the safety. Duck nuts. She got cancer and two operations and 1,500 later, just couldnt go anymore. One night I made up my mind the next morning to put her down. I actually prayed not to have to and she died that night, Dec. 21, 2012. I cried like my best friend just died, which she did. I feel for you.

All but the last two of mine have slipped off or, in an early case, died in an accident, so though I've had plenty of experience dreading it, I was spared you decision for a very long time. When I did have to make it, Doctor John said, "You can let him go, now." after his needle did its work, but I couldn't. Tears me up just to type it.

And with another facing his 17th birthday tomorrow, the topic's been too close for me to follow the thread. Glad the decision is behind you and Charlie now, Rex. Know that he's far from gone from your life and will still show up unexpectedly from time to time.
