Every time I make this argument I get told its justified because he's doing a job worthy of that kind of pay, i.e. CEO. My suggestion that since its "for the ducks" he should be volunteering his time always goes unanswered though.

Btw, I would be all for taking grant money if I had the property that allowed it. If they're gonna give it to someone, it might as well be someone I know.

Bullshit!!!!!

In what way have I taken money from the government? Please enlighten me you old fuck.

I suppose that the college you went to didn't receive any government money. Perhaps you have never driven on an interstate highway. Without government support what do you think your tuition would have been? Not having any dependents other than my wife, I pay more taxes than someone with the same income that has children all other things being the same. So don't be so quick on the trigger, it is hard to wake up in the morning without taking money from the government in one form or another.

Hell I can almost guarantee some of your honker bands came from a farm pond with state funded man made goose nests that are maintained by a government official on a private ranch some where.

Here's another thing, since you mentioned honkers. I don't even really believe that the "habitat" issue is that big of a deal, particularly for honkers and mallards. Other ducks, perhaps, although their required nesting habitat seems to be fairly well out of most of America. There are more geese than ever, and they are living/nesting in golf courses, subdivisions, sewage treatment ponds, and so on. They don't require some fancy well maintained "nesting habitat". They'll do just fine everydamnwhere. Same for mallards. So any "state funded man made goose nests" are not only a waste of time, but a waste of resources, also.

And DU is a racket for DU's sake. I lump them right in there with the Nature Conservancy for appropriating land for their own purposes, which very, very rarely involves public hunting opportunities. Last year they took somewhere north of $80 MILLION dollars in tax money from the government, and that's bullshit. I don't pay taxes to have it funneled to DU. Their CEO gets, what, a half million dollar a year salary? Yeah, they're "for the duck hunter". Again, to each their own, but I just don't see the justification for spending government dollars on a bird. If folks want to donate time and money to private organizations, more power to them.

Some friends and I started the Oroville, Ca. Chapter of DU in 1974 and I was quite involved. We raised money and sent a check to DU every year. Every year, they asked for more and even sent people to monitor our dinners to make sure we weren't taking too much money away from "the ducks". It took me a while to realize that DU was in it for DU first and ducks second.

Has anyone ever see an annual report as to income, expenses, asset accumulation and maintenance? The short answer is "NO" but they do once in a while say thanks to our members we spent this much money to make this marsh. DU reminds me of the church, just do as we say, give us the money and shut the fuck up!

Still not following where I actually took help from the government in the form of money. I pay taxes for my vehicle to drive on the roads don't I?
And no I didn't have any government help for college. My college was paid for out of pocket for by my dad. Every last cent. No scholarships, no government grants.

Don't feel bad buddy. I haven't wavered in my opinion or feel attacked personally. I've seen directly where D.U DFG and CWA work has benefited waterfowl and wildlife on a whole. I know what the benefits are. I've hunted tons of d.u created ponds in the Prairie pothole region of Canada and see why its a duck factory and should be aggressively protected. Many D.U and CWA marshes have been create from the public's donations also go to public refuges. Hell one of my favorite woodduck spots is on a very popular refuge made by d.u a few years ago. This is what being on a forum is about. Explaining your opinion and discussing it........ then being told your wrong and a communist.;)

I went and rode around with my buddy this morning on his club, told me he has a meeting tomorrow with his bio, the govt is gonna dump another 20K in dirt work into the club this summer. Thought about telling him that he should tell them to go piss up a rope, then I woke the fuck up. Hope it doesnt bring too many ducks in, I've only got 4 cases of shells.

How about instead of hanging my head in silence, I duck my head in an ambush fashion right before I stand and shoot?

At ducks? Those aren't your ducks! Those are our ducks and you should be ashamed to being witness to someone taking money to help make more habitat for our ducks!!

Try a Walmart parking lot. Turns out waterfowl don't need water. You can get them anywhere. We are paving over our club next year. Putting in a drive in movie theater with a few blinds for us during the day and evening before the shows start. Win-Win!!
