And it was banded......

Very cool
out of all the wood ducks we shot as kids , and it was a boat load , I have only killed two banded Woody's
And both were drakes.

Hell, I haven't been hunting nearly as long as you have but I'd say that I've shot quite a few ducks, and I only have one stinkin' band to show for it. Sometimes I think about taking it off my lanyard because 1 band looks even more newbie-ish than no bands.

I've got quite a few bands ( mostly on local Mallards ) and I give them to my Grandkids . I killed a Snow Goose in the
South flooded pasture just before you get to the 140 bridge . It was banded in Nunavat , Northwest Territories , I gave it to
my 8 year old Grandson and had him look it up and tell me how far that birds had flown . He did a assignment for school on
it and the teacher asked if I felt bad killing it . I told him I did that Goose a favor as it didn't have to fly all the way back
home , for it would be in my stomach nice and warm until it turned into **** !

The bad part was , that's what he told his teacher !

Hahahaha that's good! That's exactly what he should have told the teacher.

I also was hunting with a Father and his little girl ( 10 yrs old ) , she had round frame glasses and blonde braids sticking
out her over-sized camo cap , when some Mallards came flying by , I told the father to shoot , he let off 2 shots and as they
were Almost to far I let off a Hail Mary dropping a Drake at **** 60 plus yds , it was banded ! I cut the leg off to get the band
and made a ring for that Cutie , that was 10 -12 years ago and I often wonder if she's still wearing it as happy as she was me
giving it to her !

Put me in mind of the educational value of bands. I don't keep bands (come from used birds someone else has had his mitts on) but shot a speck last year while hunting by myself and learned it was banded in Nunavut, Canada, which I'd never heard of. Turns out part of the NWT was converted into Nunavut in 1999 without my knowledge, much less blessing.

Heck, I thought it was a town, not a province. Learn something new every day. Nice of them to let us know. Sort of like when an additional ocean was added to the globe, unbeknownst to me.

Apparently. I was busting the chops of a "US NAVY- PROTECTING THE WORLD'S FIVE OCEANS FOR OVER 200 YEARS" commercial. My then 14 year old (it was last year) said "There ARE 5". Being no fan of the modern school curriculum, I then started berating that idea, too. She insisted, so I Googled. Apparently, I was wrong, and the Southern Ocean had been "created" sometime in the last decade, I believe. Surrounds Antarctica.

Wait. What? There are 5 oceans? I suppose you're going to tell me there are only 8 planets now too!

Wouldn't have given a rat's ass one way or the other, but seeking my counsel still would have been the polite thing to do.

Yeah, it's a two headed monster. Where are you going to hunt? A refuge with less water and ton more pressure for the the displaced rice guys? A delta with more people hunting it? Or a public creek or river? Every one has the same Idea for a "Plan B" option. The grasslands will be hurting more then the north valley. You get the water from up here. If we are hurting the San Joaquin valley will be worse off. This is gonna be shitty all around if what is speculated turn out to be true.

I'll be down here in the grasslands. A little club hunting, a little refuge hunting. Luckily I live real close so putting in for lotto numbers at two different check stations isn't that big of a deal.

I do a 3 to 4 refuge loop three days a week if we don't have a reservation. Our chances with more people putting in with a possible 50percent less water letting less people on. It ain't looking good brother.

Damn it! You went and made me think. Called my partner at the club to see if he sold my barrel. Said he took them both on in case I needed to come back..........so it looks like I'm going back to the club this year. Sounds like they're going to hold off on flooding up until November though to make sure they have enough to make it thru the season.
