I'm done with mallards for a while. Working on diversity now. Nice wood ducks, and some golden eye are on the list next.

I'm getting rid of a dozen mallards. Going to get some Widgeons and Shovelers. What I really need is goose floaters 6 would be perfect. 4 would suffice though.

Boot, did you ever answer my question? I asked if you guys are wrapping your flatfish and quickfish for the Kings?
I honestly don't remember which thread but, I thought it was here somewhere.

Up here, it's all about water temp. The fish will bite bait anytime the water is 45-55 degrees. Anything outside if that range is hardware water.

Our water don't hit those temps until December.

Have you tried any wobblers, like Alvins or simons? They work pretty well here in the warm water of August and September.

Yes, normally a sardine wrap with crawdad meat.

It looks alike the fish just aren't in the system yet but that's not unusual for this time of year. I've been seriously thinking about giving those wobblers a try. No one really uses them here.

They work real well in deep water. Some of the guys that run them in the Columbia fish them down to a 50' bottom.
It's like flatfish, you gotta experiment with your leader and dropper length until you find what depth etc work best. Of course, I'm talking fishing them off the hook(on anchor). Way I figure is, the fish can see up but not down. If you use a 5'-6' weight slidding dropper line, the worst can happen is they'll have to come up a bit. If you put it under them they'll never see it and your only chance is to snag them. A lot of guys I've seen use 8' leader and 5' dropper.
If you got a good anchoring spot in their path that is 20' give or take, walk it back far enough they don't hear the fuckin' drunks in your boat. LOL

Are sardine the freshest local bait you can get. Do you guys have herring in any of the bay below the river you fish?
