You didn't have to tell us that, what with the rainbow of colors around your avatar, diversity is understood by all.

I honestly don't remember which thread but, I thought it was here somewhere.

Yes, normally a sardine wrap with crawdad meat.

Are sardine the freshest local bait you can get. Do you guys have herring in any of the bay below the river you fish?

None of our local bait is fresh by Astoria standards. we are too far from the ocean.

How many grains are you using in each load and how fast approximately is it going?

35 grains.
It's a load Jehler gave me. I think it's around 1400-1500.

That's my main duck load. I made some faster ones last year I liked too. I think 40ish grns and 1 1/16oz.
Recipe says 1700fps for those.

Ever try any loads going about 1200 FPS. With big shot, those should throw a hell of a pattern.

Never gone that low. I already gotta lead passing shots way too far with the 1450fps shells. I drop below 90pellets at 55yards with that load with #3s. And according to the jehlers ballistic software #3s at 1450 drop below 2.5ft lbs right around the 55 yard mark as well.
I never shoot that far, but the numbers say a duck should be dead out to 55 if I put the pattern on them. I try and stick inside 40.

At 1200fps with steel your effective killing distance is not very far.

Why don't you use something other than steel?

Too damn expensive and lead is illegal. I don't have an issue killing with steel if I can hit them.

Tungsten would be pure hell on ducks in #6 shot going about 1200-1250 fps.

I've always liked stuff that moves around 1500fps. Any faster or slower I'm screwed up for half the hunt.lol

Shotshell speeds (within reason) to me is more of a preference than a fact. I like premium, smaller shot going about 1200-1250 fps for ducks anyways. Then again I'm not taking shots over 30 yards. It is more than sufficient.

Yeah, I just use what I know and have tested out over the years. I like them because they work great for ducks and geese alike. Shit hits hard and kill birds so hell with it I'm gonna stick with what I know.
