what do you recommend for tip up tackle for pike? right now i'm using dacron, a swivel on the end and some 12lb mono. is the ice line really necessary? I imagine I'd want a lot bigger mono for Peck, or a steel leader.

bill herian wrote:I have 50 pound Dacron on the spool, a little barrel swivel and a couple feet of # 20 mono. Add split shot according to bait size. I forget the number of the hook, but I use smaller hooks than most guys I run into.

negative, the hand auger worked perfectly fine. just keep the blades honed and that bitch will tear through three foot of ice.
jehler wrote:We have a jiffy ice auger, haul it in our otter sled with our pop up shabty, drive around pulling it all with the polaris drilling holes and dropping the marcum down till we find fish. We look really good doing it in our frabil and I've armor suits. Some days we drill 70 holes and never even get a hit, but that doesn't matter, we look so damned good that errybody on the ice will come set up next to us. Yeah, in the ice fishing world we are kind if a big deal
