there's a two inch hole in the transom where the oar goes thru. On the inside is a neoprene boot that keeps water from entering the boat thru that hole. A flange needs to be attached to the transom around the hole on the inside to clamp the boot onto

Picked this piece of redwood up at a yard sale today my wife drug me to. Lady looked at me crossways when I asked her how much. She said "free."

Gonna make a perfect shelf in my boat. And I'll be able to add a touch of Humboldt to the boat with some home grown redwood

Why not just epoxy the wood, after glassing it in? Might add a touch of class.

Just a thought but if its a shelf I'd just epoxy it, 3 good coats and that grain would pop. But if you do glass it some light cloth and it would still show through. When I built my hybrid I almost didnt paint it because of how good it looked glassed. Smiths Custom Epoxy is a very good epoxy for stand alone also. JM

That's fucking heavy. You should sell it and buy a plastic one. Then after you only use it a couple of times, you won't feel bad when you see it gathering dirt and leaves in the yard.

unlike the cute little hybrid you built to load atop your mini van, this girl will hunt...a lot. My last two hunted...a lot. This one will hunt more. It won't start gathering leaves til next February.

The weights no issue. It'll be trucked or trailered. Not loaded on top of a mini van.

Ok looking for advice or ideas on this flange

The boot slides over one end, then tightened with a clamp like in the picture below. Question is I need to build a lip around the outside edge of the flange so the clamp doesn't slip. Lips needs to be maybe 1/8" to 1/4". Thought I'm leaning on 1/8".

Currently our idea is to cut small strips of fiber cloth and glass it til it's the desired depth. Which to me sounds like a major messy pain in the ass.

Any other ideas y'all can think of?

One thought was to find another PVC coupling or cap maybe and trim the end off to slide over the outside of the flange and just glue it on

If it was me (and I may not thoroughly understand the process of what's going on here), I would get a slip coupling, and cut two "rings" out of it, maybe 1" wide. Then cut the hole through the transom exactly the size of the pipe. Put some 5200 around that, and let it dry. Then glue the rings you cut out of the slip coupling on, one on the inside, one on the outside. You should be able to play with it a little, to see just how much you need to clamp the boot onto, and then cut the pipe a little extra, to allow for the "rings" you cut. No way that thing would move, between the 5200 sealing it and the two "rings" glued on either side "clamping" it in.

The only downside is that you'll need to buy a 10' section of 4" pipe, instead of just the coupling you have, unless you know somebody that has a foot or so of it laying around. But it's still what I'd do, because it will be much more secure.

i think I get what you're saying. But if I understand you correctly it wouldn't quite work cause we line the inside of the hole with leather so we don't bang up the oar
