Buying a franchise

I'm finishing up some school work and have a project I'm working on. I'm researching buying a franchise. This question is for anyone that owns a business or has a hand in running a business in the day to day operations. If a prospective buyer approached you wanting to buy a franchise of your company, what requirements would you like to be met? Would you require a certain % of money for a down payment? Or perhaps have infrastructure already in place to bypass the down payment?

I don't know of a franchise that doesn't require at least $500,000 in reserves in addition to any building/supply costs. The Subway franchise here(cheapest one in town) took a cool 1.4 million sitting in a bank account to buy into.

This is all very true, my dad looked into buying one when he retired and most want you to X amount of money so that the business can float without profit for X amount of years.

Exactly. If you aren't bringing in 200k+ a year, you don't stand a chance. Only reason I know anything about them is because I had a neighbor that owned 4 just for retirement purposes. Told me he felt like he was losing his ass when he only had 2.
