has to be a picture showing the birds you selected for your hand. So, I would say best hand of the week.

This week starts today and you have until Saturday to post a pick of your hand.

Pretty much. Just talked with a guy who said even the real big lake is froze as far as you can see. Guys are out ice fishing already. There are a couple spots you can do real well if you find them, but I'm thawing out the boat (still, from a week ago) and it's going away and the sleds are coming out.

Here is a thought tho to spice it up a little maybe. Got the idea from a DU duck shoot. List the bird species (like on a grid), and each week you draw cards going down the list for what birds are what. You could do this at the end of the week to be completely random/chance, or you could do it at the beginning to give guys a chance to try and find the "high dollar" birds and put a shoot on em. It could mix it up a little and maybe give guys who aren't necessarily in a prime location for certain species a chance still.

My best hand this year, K high, with a merganser kicker  :(

Create two suits, puddlers and divers, so you can get a straight flush, which I believe is what you intended. If you want 4 suits, split them further into hens and drakes.

It seems like a fun idea. It would be more fun if I thought I had a real chance of even getting a single decent hand during a year.

BTW, why is a mallard a K and a black duck a 3? Mallard is king, no doubt about it, but I'd put black duck up in the face cards and move the shoveler down.

Yeah black duck should be up in the top.

Got to try and keep it fair that is why I set up the species the way I did. For example: if we had woodies as an ace, I would likely win every hand in October. Likewise if we had bands count for something, people near banding locations would win every week.

You see how that would be an unfair advantage, even more so than just being from AK, LA, CA, SD or ND?

When I lived in Detroit I saw hundreds of banded birds, they were everywhere because they were banded at so many locations near by. I do most of my hunting on the west side of the state and so I have never even been on a hunt where a band was taken (except that one Beel shot @).

I used to be a band hunter. now I just fill my freezers full of ducks and geese and we get bands along the way.
after so many it looses the thrill.
now we get the kids on them they still get a kick out of taking a banded bird.

If people keep complaining, just remember the random draw for species cards thing.

Plus folks, it's poker. 4 of a kind will beat most anything, even if it's 4 2s. Heck most those lower species don't have individual limits so you could go 5 of a kind.
