Figuring it out took me ten years.
Two seasons I did a TON of boat pushing.
Yep. To find some of the holes you have to get lost and stumble into them then track or mark your way out.
These days you can find holes on Google but actually getting to one...you have to scout.
I see guys charge into the woods heading straight for my hole. I get on the elk chute and beat them because they get stuck.
It's funny and painful to watch.
Now to do it the right way....
You find a hole any hole. Hunt until 9 or so.
Pack it up and go scout until noon. Serious.
Everyone smart quits at around 9 or 10 so it's ok if you're out scouting then. Be polite if you interrupt someone and back on out.
You have to scout to be successful.
I find people completely lost out in the woods at least once a week..
