It dawned on me to ask a dumb Yankee question but first a little background. As a teenager I remember my uncles laughing about a certain type of southern "fruit" to avoid.
Persimmons.
I'm clueless but suppose you had a guy point out the Persimmon trees, he sends you over to try one, and adds that the green ones are best.
I went over and gathered up a few rotten Persimmons off the ground but nobody wanted to try it. I pretended to try one.

The green ones are best.
Are they really edible?
You eat it I'm Mikey....hates everything.

Went and got this gadget for $13.
I thought it'd be bigger but it works real well.
How did I go ten years without one?
This is kind of nice by the fire.

How the power plant lake works it keeps the mascoutin ramp open even when it's frozen.
The whole lake freezes but not the discharge canal and that hot water flow keeps a lot of water open.
The ducks all go over by route 54 by the power plant where you can't hunt them. Some don't and I ain't saying where. If it's iced up that bad I give up.
For a few days maybe two the ducks suddenly use the wings of the lake right before it freezes.
Of course this year...What ducks?

Hey...I looked outside to see if my chimney is smoking and saw 3 mallards fly over.
I haven't seen a duck in a week.
Now they're flying around mid-day?
Over my front porch begging to be shot.
Maybe I'll hook up muh boat tonight.
They're moving.
Yesterday I drove around looking and all I saw was 1 Canada goose.

As a kid we formed a club. I had a portable record player and the club had one (1) record.
This one.
Flashback ....1970

We were very wicked kids. The initiation was you had to steal a carton of cigarettes. We'd smoke in the clubhouse behind the garage.

The flyups I watched were weak the first split but I bet the refuge is packed now. When it freezes they'll disappear a while then return.
If they have anything worth videoing I'll do it but it might be at the very end at the end of January. Siberian Express has me changing plans.
It will freeze to the southern tip of Illinoiz and beyond.
Sigh.

Usually when you try and look up anything Hollywood ...
Bam you're right there.
Something is very weird about this.
I recognized this girl on my 3 son's.
20221219_053847.jpg

It took us 25 minutes of hard searching to figure out that she is Jody Foster.
So what's her deal and why was it so hard to figure out who she is?
Not enough coffee yet I guess.
The fat girl is somebody too.
Not Brooke shields.
My wife loves a challenge.
Victoria Paige Myers was on Adam 12 and Family Affair but not much else... Green Acres.
Turned producer and makes movies now. Hm.
Their band sucked bad. Horrible concert they were laughed at. :)

Admitting that you use them takes cajones.

I see Champaign has a prediction of 6 degrees for a high on Friday and Saturday. How do y’all keep water pipes protected? Here in Louisiana, the state would probably crash and burn with those temps, this state would just stop functioning.

It's ghetto as hell but ...
The wife made a cardboard box "plenum" and pipes heat thru a hole in the plumbing wall. Floor vent nearby.
It works kinda sorta.

I'm working on two boxes.
One for Louisiana and another for Minnesota.
Vacaville Ca., Marion Indiana, and Macomb Illinois already have tracking numbers but aren't members here Yet. Gimme time for a safety meeting.
Safety third you know.

One year I built a temporary greenhouse and used the dryer vent to heat it. It had three sides and a roof but was clear plastic and that kept pipes from freezing. Just run the dryer a lot.
Ghetto...hehe

It's going to be cold as fuck in Blytheville too. Is ok. Them hard core guys will clear lanes so if I get there say Monday I could hunt at least in the boat lanes. If it's icy that actually works.

Oh yeah. Fasteel72 shot a nice deer.
Big bloody mess it "didn't go 20".
Saw picture. Was about to ask if he had to track it far.
Looked at background and "dayum did yuh get any on yuh?".

If you dig up the extended forecast it gets warmer and wetter.
Screenshot_20221219_092641_Weather.jpg

My plan can change. Sunday is the start of third split.

I don't know but
1. Ducks will pour thru that area because that's just what they do
2. I "think" that if I were a duck that just got to either big lake or Dave Donaldson exhausted and hungry...I'd sit on a river and wait a bit.
They'll be using the refuge too because a lot of water runs thru it.

Post office fiasco.
Me and this random guy about started a fight when ...
There is this divider thing.
Sign on top says "line forms here".
A bunch of non-English speakers had to have it explained that " no no you don't just cut around the line and make a second line".
He was about to start swingin

In 1966 a family friend drove my dad's 1964.5 Mustang under a semi trailer on the ramp from I74 to I57.
Squashed it good.
It was nearly totalled.
The body shop brought it back from the dead.
I asked dad "how".
He muttered something about a big machine with chains so I dropped it.
I saw one of these videos.
Wow. That guy makes it look easy.

Careful his videos are addictive.

:welcome: Ok there's your sure-fire 100% going to jail goose hunt.
They're sitting on the ice and you could probably do a drive-by from a pickup.
There's about 50 mallards sitting on the center of the ice.

That borrow pit has a story.
The county owned it but it was landlocked.
Chicago Joe bought it and caused a big ruckus by demanding people destroy their paddleboat docks and quit using the pond.
He buys them properties just to make a stink.

He's done it all over the twin cities.
Buys weird inaccessible slivers of land then ...sigh what a jerk.

HEY THATS IN ILLINOIZ! AFTER JANUARY FIRST NO BAIL THEYLL JUST TURN YOU LOOSE. GETTING YOUR GUNS BACK MIGHT HAPPEN....MAYBE.

Schedule that drive-by waterfowl massacre for December 31st, that way we just might get out before the prison fun starts.
