From what I can tell from experience, reading, and talking to others, you never win the war against cattails. It requires almost annual battles in this climate which can in some years provide 12 month growing seasons. We are trying to set the stage so that we have the best shot at winning: new water control structures to hold flooding to proper depth (high during spring growing season), ditches cut to facilitate draining in the summer, pumps to get water off if marsh water level is too high to allow draining prior to disking and spraying to limit succession, and equipment to get the work done.

Here is a map of the general area. The new fiberglass t-box blind with the wooden walk around that I posted pics of earlier this summer is labeled as New Blind and the blind that we built last year is the East Flat Blind.
