Dave I am with you, I have killed lots of ducks in shirt sleeves during November and December. I guess it is my age telling on me.

Oh but just like that, models are our friends again and back on board with a strong front. This is next Saturday morning (opener) at shooting time.

That's as good as it gets for a forecast and timing for our purposes. Note temps through upper midwest to Dakota's.

Fun to keep watching, and hoping, at least.

I saw that earlier on the model runs I looked at. The Caribbean better behave.

And this morning, multiple models still talking front, and a Gulf storm, for late next week.

Oh boy, what an exciting time!

I'm not seeing any predictions on the apps of that much of a cool down. Hope your right and I'm wrong.

Apps wont buy it until the models align. It's still showing promise, but timing is varied, lots of uncertainty, or it could fizzle at the state line....again.

Got report of a pretty solid youth hunt in the Delacroix area, two young guns taking 8 teal, 2 spoons and 2 grays in 34 mins, and big numbers seen overall, albeit mostly teal still. Will brushed up at our newest blind yesterday and reported no flights of about anything, though didn't go poking around back where my main blind is where they often hide when not seen elsewhere, so I'm holding hope some are doing just that.

All eyes on the weather for next week........

Definitely worth noting for the logbook as a testament to where we are with the weather, and likely, the migration.

Oh and at the moment we're within the cone of uncertainty for what's likely to be TS or hurricane Rafael. Yep, great week coming up!

I’ve never pulled for the Europeans to be right about something so much in my life. Euro model vs the American GFS.

I have to but most of the time it's been with an arctic blast barreling down and it's generally within 48 hours of its arrival. I'll be the first to admit however that hunting marsh where ducks are abundant and hunting as I do in the EZ are to very different hunts and approaches.

For whatever reasons, it's seemed, though, that the EURO model as a whole this storm season has not done so well, and the good ol American model has largely done respectably. They are obviously way off from each other right now, so yea, go Team Euro!

NHC shows the storm forward motion coming to a halt in the Garden Banks Block offshore. After that it's a crap shoot.

Much better weekend forecast this morning than what we were seeing yesterday afternoon, and now we're even out of the cone!

Still likely to face very high tides this weekend, but maybe it's not a total loss, just a hassle/nuisance. Need a good front to come in and blow it out.

There is a high pressure system setting up on the Texas coast or just inland. This will bring us north winds as have been forecast for the last few days.

Isn't that wild that it was right all along? Glad to be way out the cone now! We'll have high water, especially since high tide is in the morning/overnight hours, but it's far better than what we were facing a few days ago.

In further weather news, see snippets below from my local weather guy, these really tell the tale on the temperature situation down here:

As of yesterday (11/6/24) newscast

Still seeing promise of a halfway decent front for a week from now, and then signals of better one the week after. But for this weekend, worse-than-September-teal-season conditions likely to prevail. Is what it is.

And this too, thus why everyone's calling it "Teal Season 2.0 - All Ducks are Open" so far:

Thankfully, looking ahead is showing a lot of promise across multiple models.

It sure felt like we were way hotter than I could ever remember. I had not seen the numbers but this sure proves that feeling.

Some good weather snippets starting to gain traction, watching for next week.

Also still watching potential for strong storm in the gulf next week, said to be swept east by the frontal passage of note above.

When someone as gung-ho as the Dave Comeaux of old becomes a fair weather hunter, things really have gone to crap.

If the odds of having birds were better for us I'd be okay with it. Fighting and sitting in a cold wind for hours staring at nothing is dampening my enthusiasm. I guess I've reached that point. Most times I feel we're just going through the motions, and it's becoming monotonous.

With that said, we'll be out Saturday morning doing it all again. I have a little hope that we'll have birds around after this front, and would love to see that our water level has dropped. I want to get my wild child pup some time at the blind, and maybe a retrieve or two.

What do you consider cold?

I'm hoping we get temperatures with a minus sign in front of it.

Long range forecast for us is a lot of day time highs in the 40's and rain. The worst  weather imaginable.

I hope it gets cold as hell so I can hunt ducks, but if not I hope it warms to the 50's and at least dry so I can hunt deer. 40's and rain, I'm just sitting home bitching.
