Water still up but manageable and really is about ideal depth in the hole. Was dead for first thirty minutes but got going closer to 7a and sporadic from there. Should have closed it out at 7:45, should have gotten one more from wad of five that did us right so of course had to sit another hour almost to get the last bird. We have nothing else to do today but watch football and cook some rabbits so can’t complain, really nice to have our efforts pay off with feet-down birds in tight. Didn’t see a whole lot but the little traffic around us is willing. Hope to see a few more tomorrow.

Will had slow morning at public area nearby, one kept, one long off crip lost. We’ll try again tomorrow in same blind; after enjoying the old pro today, planning to take his successor tomorrow.

Zero wind mostly, sticky 70s, clear skies

Back to same location from yesterday, swapped out Harry for Indy to make her first solo hunt. Just had that dead feeling to it to start, and very little shooting in the area, likely also a lot of people stayed in. Made the most of what gave us a chance for the most part, and a few others that came by seemed to know our game. Ace shooting we maybe get 1-2 more but still lucky to get the few we did given how dead it was.

Little Miss handled well overall and was steady at the blind, but would find a bird and not want to bring back. While I appreciate the help locating downed birds, we need to work on that whole bringing it back part. Kept one bird intact to work with her this week at home.

Will hunted nearby on lease and took 2, saw very few. Planning to try them again on Friday and hoping the upcoming big moon will bring fresh birds for next weekend.

Same hunts we had, first one good, second one not so good.

We don't have any pond on our lease with the shallow water you have - looks great.

Will scratched out 3 blue wings on a solo hunt on our nearby public ground this morning, said it was pretty sparse.

A displaced buddy from home joined four other guns in the Creole area and had 27 this morning, apparently in a hole that's been running 6-7 guns a day through it and hadn't yet missed a limit till today.

We have plans to hop back in the new Teal Blind on the lease for tomorrow to see what did, or didn't, show with the growing moon.

Stout wind off the bat, but amongst the worst mosquito situations I’ve seen, brutal and of course had to be when my son came and the birds didn’t. Misery with mosquitos thick and birds thin, made worse yet that the birds that did come flat dodged our hole and enjoyed lighting on the edges. Didn’t see whole lot but had the ones that came by treated us well, we’d have had a little strap to change our tune but for now feels like we got beaten good this morning. Upside being we saw quite a few birds holding just to our north that appeared new so hoping tomorrow we get some different looks at the same hole. Kept spinners out today and can definitely confirm THAT was not the ticket.

But there was a redfish, flounder and a nice channel cat off the dock this afternoon so things could be worse. Raymond’s in camp and hoping he packed his waders in friendly blue wings.

Water fell back out over night when wind relented and somehow that resulted in the feared onslaught of mosquitoes never happening. Little bit better early activity today but overall still just not many in our vicinity. Heard basically zero shooting, on a Saturday, so others weren’t seeing much either. Let an early not-sure-a-teal-or-mottled pass overheard without firing and also let one of a decoying pair get out that shouldn’t have but that was really it beyond what came home with us. Harry clutch in rounding up birds in the slop, including a diving crafty crip. We had a nice time and waved to the inevitable single blue wing that crossed the hole as we walked out.

Graham bumped out to the auxiliary dog blind given this blind is just a little 8 footer, much more smiles with less mosquitoes and more birds

All in all a fair teal season given how poorly we’ve done for the last few, and got to enjoy the perks of private land doing it instead of worrying about someone beating us to public birds. Ready to put away the gadgetry and ready the big duck gear.

We mostly walked/slogged/trudged. Some steps 1 inch deep, some steps 1 foot deep. Sloppy but that's where the birds want to be! Glad to go back to our usual easy-hunt blinds come November.

Teal Wrap up

Seemingly slow from SW La to SE La for the closing weekend so plainly did not get a push we all wanted during the chosen week. Lots of drakes in the pictures so have to wonder if the bulk are slowed and we largely missed out on more significant numbers passing through.

Totals for me were:

19 BW teal
4 hunts

Not remotely one of our better ones, but surely better than our last good many teal seasons.

Will now transition back to watching for fronts and hopefully getting water out of our marsh, still way too high for now. Few minor blind projects still to tackle before early November.
