Nice chrome.

Thanks. It's wild winter steel and not too beat up, yet, but not exactly what we consider chrome around here. Still a bruiser and glad he's out looking to spread his milt around a bit.

I got this one in the same spot a couple years ago. About a half inch longer and way more chrome, especially for April. Just too bad about all the net marks.

Damn I'm jealous banknote. Are you casting a spey or switch rod? I'm looking at probably getting a switch before next year.

These were both landed with a spey, an 8139 Burkhiemer. I generally prefer spey for fishing tips on bigger water. I like fishing switch rods in summer with floating lines and small flies, and also winter in tighter quarters and with shorter tips. I've somehow managed to accumulate a few of both.

That looks like an early summer fish. We used to catch summers in April all the time in the Sandy. I would expect a winter fish in April to be blushed up and on his way downhill

Color-wise, yes it looks pretty summery for April, but this river doesn't have a wild summer run. I've caught chrome winters and summers here and on the Sandy from late March through early May. In any case, chrome is chrome and I'll take it!

There's an easier way to do that.
Grab the duck by it's bill with your thumb on the bottom. Let it dangle and twirl it around real quick once. That'll snap it's neck and it'll die pretty quick. Giant Canada geese take a couple twirls.

My quest is always for green. Finally got there this season.
I get up and start plottin on em every day.
Only 8.5 months til duck season. Teal dont count. It'll be here in no time. Gotta paint boat and redo the blind coverings.
Got to find another spare pro or two. Timber eats em up. Always something.

That was a perfect specimen and I was thinking of mounting it so I didn't want to mess up the feathers on the neck.
