It took me a while to learn despite the fact that a really good guy told me. Hunter/fisherman jealousy at public lands is powerful. When the game warden would check my boat and have to search for the ducks and he didn't even ask why...THAT was what convinced me that it's what you're supposed to do. NOT parade them back triumphantly. I'm a slow learner.

Come on, AB, how are people supposed to know how hardcore you are if you don't parade them arround town, strapped to your hood?

I've actually been known to drive arround in circles for 45 minutes to make sure no one was following me, and then going to another spot if I suspected I was indeed being followed.

I've put in way too much time and effort in finding productive spots to give them away to some black hoodie, barrel sticker, duck commander wanna be killin krew.

I won 4 local bass tournaments in row by atleast 14lbs in each, I couldn't go fishing without being followed for about a year. I showed a lot of people some really bad spots before saying fuck it and fishing other bodies of water.

I carried a 6ft ugly stick with a cheap baitcaster and had a zeraspook on the end. People wouldnt get within 40yds of me. Also done that plenty of times with a spinnerbait. You get the point when it cracks next to your ear.

Another tip. Some of you may disagree but I will pull the plug at the boat ramp while the boat is on the ramp. Will pull the rig up to the waters edge and then drain the boat back into the lake. It's a habit I've been doing ever since I had my first duck boat.

Why? Up north where I started hunting sometimes you go when it's below freezing and it stays that way for days or weeks. Any water that gets left in the boat from the dog jumping in and out will turn solid if I don't get it out immediately. I have a place where I stick the plug and it won't fall out or get lost. Spare ones too.

I've always done that too AB. I always do it to clean out mud and debris. Pull the boat on the trailer, pull the plug, get out and pull it out of the water and drain.

I honestly don't get your point. Why would anyone disagree with letting the water out of their boat?

Because they're in a hurry to get their boat out of the water too.

Thats a good idea, I usually throw buckets of water in the boat while on the ramp, but pulling the plug before pulling the boat out of the water would be easier.

cleans it out pretty good. Just be careful on steep ramps. A few gallons of water makes a boat heavy to pull up a slick steep ramp.

I'try that out this summer when the mackerel run. 3 or 4 hundred pounds of them makes a hell of a mess.

I bowfish in the summer and make a real nice mess of my boat with bloody carp. That usually takes some scrubbin when I get home to get the stink out though. :-D

No bowfishing around here. Looks like a fun way to spend the day.

I don't go much during the day. It's about 10 times better at night.

I go eel spearing at night. Thought about trying with a bow, but it's illegal and a pretty narrow target.

these were the smallest I've ever shot with my bow. Littlest one was 13" and as big around as s golf ball. It was about 4 foot down and 25' away. Miracle shot to say the least.

long-nose gar. Only ever ate one and won't do it again. They are severely overpopulated on that lake and do a number on the bait and game fish. They just get turned into fertilizer for the garden.

You should bury them near the bases of trees and shrubs, also. Does wonders. My apple trees produce more than trees twice their size in our area. I like to think it's because every fish carcass I get I bury amongst the roots.

I was going to say gar, but never saw them that small or that long of a nose.

Most of them get put by the apple trees. Last spring was the first year I started planting fish there so we will see what they look like this spring. Buried about 800 carp there last year.
