I have no problem whatsoever believing that. With each passing day, I'm more convinced that not only am I not cut out for what society has become, but also that society would prefer to not have people around who believe as most of us here do.

i shit you not i flunked my 140 math 2 times because the "professor" said my work did not follow a logical thought process and because my work was wrong he (and later the 2nd one she) would not accept my answers even though most were correct.. i said "if i have a problem, and then i have the solution to said problem, what does it matter how i cam to the solution". response i shit you not was "that does not always work in real life". Me. "and what is this stuff got to do with in real life??? i can just type the equation into a computer program and i have all i need". him. "you may not have access to a computer." Me " if i have not access to a computer, then what senario on God's green earth would be so pressing that i HAD to have the answer right then and there." him "i'm not changing your grades, so please leave my office." heated words followed that i do not quite recall, but he threaned to have me kicked out of school..

i'm not surprised. the longer i live, the more i think that having a higher ed. degree means losing all common sense at best, and forfeiting your brain at worst.

found out that my math "professor" doesn't have any math certification whatsoever. she has a B.S, M.S, and a Ph.D. Why is she qualified to teach this class?

This is the spelling test for this week. Let me get this straight- they want to use some crazy building block pattern strategy nonsense for 5+4, but for spelling, it's just some patternless dartboard dreck. When did the world get turned around?

I'm not so sure I see a problem with randomly selected spelling words as long as they are within what's acceptable for the grade level.

I actually don't see much problem with this. I would ring this up as them trying to establish where Layniebug is at as a speller. Look at it this way, if all they make her do is spell fox and dog, how will they know she can spell hippopotamus and that she should probably be put on an advanced course. The fine line here is as long as they aren't actually "grading" her on it, just using it to gauge where she is at. If they are grading it an taking it seriously, there are other issues. Personally, I would like to see the bottom of that list offered as some sort of bonus words, ones that she wouldn't feel bad about missing and can still get a perfect score for being where she should be.

Oh, it's graded. She got an 80% last week, it;'s not like I'm complaining about that so much as the fact that there is no rhyme or reason to it. It's like handing someone a goose call, and saying "here, blow a cluck, then a spit note-rolling triple cluck", and assuming they can do that because "they already know the cluck".

Just as I believe that repetition should be the operative system for math, I feel the same for spelling, or whatever "subject" that is classified as. Drill the addition and subtraction table into them until they know them backwards and forwards, then build on that and let them figure out their own method of what works best and easiest for themselves. Drill basic word structure into them, and build on that, same as the math. There is, however, no structure to build on, either in math or spelling. As for what level she's on, that shouldn't matter. There should be a "second grade level", and she's either below it or above it. It doesn't matter a damn if she's at a fourth grade level, since it won't change one single thing in her time in the public education system.

But like I said, we keep doing our thing here at home. I'm busy raising female gladiators fit for world domination. The rest of the mediocre sheep may do as they please.

Yeah, I looked at 2 different websites before I took that screenshot just to make sure I wasn't just reading bullshit.

I hate to say it, but I get it. Not saying it's the best method to teach young children, but I understand what they are trying to accomplish. It is basically teaching Base 10 in it's most rudimentary form and from what I see, basically trying to teach things the way kids think. I would imagine the line of thinking is that most kids can count to ten pretty easily, so addition and subtraction of anything that totals 10 (or under) becomes pretty easy for them. So basically, the whole goal for them is to get kids to understand that once they can add up to the nearest ten, all they need to add is what remains. Seems like a lot more thinking than is needed to me though.
