I actually don't see much problem with this. I would ring this up as them trying to establish where Layniebug is at as a speller. Look at it this way, if all they make her do is spell fox and dog, how will they know she can spell hippopotamus and that she should probably be put on an advanced course. The fine line here is as long as they aren't actually "grading" her on it, just using it to gauge where she is at. If they are grading it an taking it seriously, there are other issues. Personally, I would like to see the bottom of that list offered as some sort of bonus words, ones that she wouldn't feel bad about missing and can still get a perfect score for being where she should be.
