Technically, the answer should be 460. But I expect what they want is 100. Either way, for kids who have done ZERO work adding double-digit numbers, I feel this is pretty stupid, and is setting them up for failure.

i read it the same as you Jim, that question is clear as mud. help Bug get 460 and show the work, should be funny to see what the teacher writes back

Agreed, any other answer is wrong. Help her get to the correct answer. Although its gonna suck for her to draw out 46 groups of 10.

I immediately thought 460 also. To come out to 100 I had to think of how to do it wrong.

This thread helps keep me sane. Rather than looking at the homework and getting pissed, I now get excited, hoping there's something dumb so I can post here.

He counted 40 pennies, not 40 stacks. I suppose Brad is a waterhead, and stacked them into groups of 10, then counted out 40 pennies individually, and then decided to count the remaining stacks by 10s. I don't know.

What I DO know is that if it comes back corrected today, and the answer is 460, I'm going to make Layniebug get 3 sheets of printer paper and cover them with 40 stacks of ten round things resembling coins, add it up, and return that to the teacher with a note which says "Surely you can see just how stupid, and how great a waste of time, the work you are assigning actually is".

Please don't think that I won't make this happen.

It may seem like a little thing, and in any other profession, it probably would be. But the hypocrisy exhibited by those whose job it is to educate, and who hold themselves to an imagined "higher standard", to make such a stupid mistake is far different (to me) than if it was at an office complex or something.

When my daughter started kindergarten at the same school, there were big letters cut out of construction paper on the wall of the cafeteria- "Welcome to all of our new students, and congradulations [sic] to those returning from last year". You mean to tell me that ALL those teachers and "educators" didn't see that sign and know it was spelled wrong? They're either stupid or lazy, and neither is a good qualifier for telling me what and how my kids need to learn. Pisses me off.

Nothing. Yesterday was their Friday, since today is an "inservice day" for the teachers. School's closed. I guess they have worked hard for the last 2 1/2 weeks since Labor Day, and need a day to catch up. Maybe I'll go swing by the school, and see how many teacher's cars are there, since they always claim to need these days to "maintain classrooms" and complete admin tasks at school. Matter of fact, that's a great idea.

Be right back.

my bullshit for the day:

got a quiz back, the professor wrote "You should not have to write all this [work] down!"

excuse me, but how the fuck am I supposed to keep track of where I'm at in the problem if i'm not writing shit out and double checking myself? Also, they fucking browbeat this write it out shit into you for fifteen years, now they decide to change the game? I suck at math, writing it out helps me keep track and figure out what i need to do, i can't just pull a fucking answer out of my ass. Even if i'm doing shit on a calculator, i still write it out so i can make sure i didn't fuck it up while entering it, which is pretty common with me.

Then the bitch has the nerve to write on the bottom of my test "You should really come get some help."

fuck her.

dude you fucking up, next chance you have go talk to that professed and thank her for telling you to get help, you've wanted to all term but where embarrassed, tell her how you struggle with some shit or something dyslexia maybe and you wrote things to double check, if you can let your eyes well up a little and when she helps get excited and tell her what a great prof she is and now your confident that with her help you can succeed. By doing this in a subconscious level she will associate your grades with her abilities as a teacher, college is not for learning what's in the books, it's for learning how to conquer people and situations
