He counted 40 pennies, not 40 stacks. I suppose Brad is a waterhead, and stacked them into groups of 10, then counted out 40 pennies individually, and then decided to count the remaining stacks by 10s. I don't know.
What I DO know is that if it comes back corrected today, and the answer is 460, I'm going to make Layniebug get 3 sheets of printer paper and cover them with 40 stacks of ten round things resembling coins, add it up, and return that to the teacher with a note which says "Surely you can see just how stupid, and how great a waste of time, the work you are assigning actually is".
Please don't think that I won't make this happen.
