We had a blast last spring fishing out of Astoria. Caught something like 50 fish in 4 days of fishing.

Bank- Check the regs carefully as they changed them last year. Some asshole from Cali depleted the fishery and they did some emergency measures.

They really did change the regs though, can't remember if it was closed or went to C&R. We cancelled our plans to do a charter.

banknote wrote:I was swinging flies on the Cowlitz a few years ago and snagged some 40lb mono, so I decided to hand-line it all in to get it out of the river. It came up tight and I figured I'd beak it, but noticed that it was moving up stream, slowly but steadily, with out any throb or pulse like a fish, just like it was hooked to a slow moving train. I wrapped the line around a stick and held it until whatever was pulling broke the line. I figured it was a huge sturgeon.

That's exactly what its like when you hook one through the ice. As tight as you can pinch the line, the tension just increases until it pops through your fingers. No tugging or anything. I've only landed a 52 incher but had a couple right under the ice that were not going to fit through a 10" hole.
