I think it's all about the same nowadays. My pair of Walmart Herman's waterproofs finally shit the bed last year, after 8 seasons. Best $35 I ever spent, and when they go on clearance after turkey season here, hopefully I can grab another pair.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you didn't buy them to keep your feet dry for a season or more.

Meh. Wanted to give them a go. They are nice and light weight. Time will see.

I don't even give boot weight a thought when it comes to being cold and wet. Your feet being uncomfortable will send you back to camp out elk hunting faster than most anything else.
If you can keep your feet warm and dry (blister free is good too) then you will hang it out longer.
I pretty much only buy Kennetreks now that I have had them. I figure you can spend $200 every year or two on Danner or danner type boots or you can buy one pair of Kenetreks and have dry feet for years to come for around $400. I'm on my 5th season with one pair and 4th season with the other.
I also wear them for my conditioning walks that start in February and go through to the fall seasons. Both pairs have hundreds and maybe thousands of miles(okay maybe a thousand miles.)

Need something for the foothills around here. Mainly for pigs and turkeys. Or a small pack in fishing trip with boot and juice box and pheasant hunting. Stuff like that.

Yeah. Most of the time i hunt small pieces of property in the valley. I've killed most of my deer either wearing slip on boots or even waders when its storming real bad.

What's the best is, is what works best for you. My point was that the Danner's name is forever tarnished. Around here, not too many people buy their Chinese made trash. They're still asking American made prices for Walmart and Kmart quality.
Kennetrek works for me and they're lifetime warranty. They can be resoled for half the cost of new and if they don't stay waterproof, they are replaced under the warranty. Danner is local here but, without a good product or warranty, they're a waste of money.

I basically hunt right in my own back yard on an OTC tags for elk and deer. I also hunt WY now but, not elk every year.

Well, after you wear out those Danners or get tired of wet feet, look at the Kennetrek Hard scrabble hikers. They're good light weight high end boot that will keep your feet dry.
If moisture isn't a problem for you, your Danners will last until the stitching falls out or your soles crack. That may not take as long as you expect though. ;)

For $400, those other boots should come with a tongue long enough to lick my nuts while I'm wearing them.

Best pair of workboots I ever had were Danners. Sad to hear they won't pay Americans to build them. Fuck em. Let them change to Danchi for all I care. Draw the line at work boots and insist I get USA written on them somewhere.
