MI is a "brown it's down" state up north. There are some APRs showing up to try and get more mature deer, but the hunting heritage here is kill the first thing that walks buy with horns. And it's hard to change the minds of guys that have been doing it for 50 years. I could care less one way or the other.

Don't worry Jgun is gonna fix that for you. Wish we had the brown it's down laws down here. I'm sick of passing bucks for no fucking reason.

That's like saying you can't believe their sheep are so small, because your steers average over 1,000 lbs.

Whitetails in Michigan rarely get the chance to get really mature, but even when they do, they are still quite a bit smaller on average than a Midwestern corn-fed deer. I've seen plenty of whitetails around here dress out over 300.

Biggest dressed deer I've ever seen come out of MI was 205 dressed and that was a 3.5 year old southern deer. My dad shot one around 240, but that was a long time ago. And it was an old deer that somehow made it through 4 or 5 years without getting shot.

Nuff hunts in Detroit and up north with subsistence hunting Indians...

There are some large deer shot in MI every year.

Wisconsin is "brown its down" and we stack more Boone than any other state by a mile.

Michigan deer are small.

It has nothing to do with management, enough deer are shot in every state to give an accurate representation.

They just get bigger here.

We don't have shit for ours to eat, that's why they are so small yet management practices are supposed to help it. I hate the fucking government biologists that run our county's game laws. They are a bunch of jackasses.

I am sure genes have a lot to do with it, but management definitely plays a role in the size of deer.

Yes, but it dosen't change how big a deer can potentially get, just increases the chances of it reaching full potential.

Typically the further north, the bigger a species gets. Good food sources are a bonus. Terrain and habits also play a big role. Definitely hear of a lot of big deer coming from WI.

Fantastic, I am going to send all of our OOS hunters up to see ya. I get tired of our scrawny, undernourished deer anyway.

The deer here aren't eating any better than the deer in Maryland, Nebraska, Missouri, Pennsylvania, or just about any other state with a few exceptions.

However, a larger proportion of them are reaching boone and crockett size.

I'd be glad to have them and their money.

Is it true that KDWPT shut down duck hunting at Quivera and started leasing it to whitetail outfitters?

I remember hearing something of that sort.

I'm not sure the deer in WI get bigger, but I would definitely believe there are more of them. Harvest #s tell the story.

"More big deer' is more appropriate than "bigger deer". A big deer can happen anywhere, and they happen in Kansas a lot, but you're right, the numbers don't lie.

I always felt like a deer in Kansas has a better chance of getting shot because the country is so open (compared to WI), but Kansas also doesn't have the hunter density that we do.

Only getting one buck/ season also really helps Kansas bucks out.

Absolutely. It also helps that gun season doesn't happen during the rut. The terrain of KS isn't capable of holding deer like WI. It gets way more open the further west you go.
