Geese are a blast. Especially when things really come together on a hunt. Seeing the tornado start or landing geese at your feet. But I just can't get past the sounds and sights of duck hunting. Early in the morning watching the fly back. Having ducks of all sizes land all over the place. I would have to say I'd pick ducks over geese. The different types of ducks and they all fly, work ,and sound different. Killing specs or snows is super fun and love doing it. I just have to pick ducks....." honestly I love the hunts were you get your ducks and spend the rest of the day chipping away your spec or snow limits."

Yea I guess it isn't. I would choose a diver layout hunt over a goose hunt any day.

I love goose hunting and have a ton invested but in the end, you are shooting the same bird every time. If ducks aren't moving good we always just go for geese since its a pretty easy limit.

I like duck hunting more. Just more diversity around here.
If you want to hunt geese you put out some full bodies in a field, shoot 2 geese and go home.
You can field hunt, marsh hunt, managed flooded corn, open water shoreline, and layout hunt open water for a ton of different species of ducks here. And you can get a lot more shots off in a hunt.

Plus you can usually pass shoot your 2 geese while duck hunting.

There are a ton of geese around here, but you need a field to have regular success. Last season was the first time I targeted geese, and it was a good time.

With that being said, nothing compares to watching the sun come up over a body of water. Whether it's a pond, river, or lake, listening to the whistling wings of ducks at first light beats goose hunting, hands down, in my book.

Yep, I've never done it. But I know it is something that I would enjoy greatly.

I have a desire to live, so I want nothing to do with the open ocean. A layout in shallow water  in deep water

Goose hunting is a close first for me. Plus if you're hunting geese in Nodak you're bound to have a few mallards check your spread out.

Ducks, ducks, ducks! But it is easy to pass up a duck hunt for a good goose hunt. Goose hunting is too equipment intensive for me. Give me 5-10 doz duck decoys a boat and a shotgun and something to eat and drink and I'm duck hunting. Give me a 4 wheeler, about 1000 rags to put out and pick up, a layout blind and I'm goose hunting, much more work.

I'd rather shoot geese than puddle ducks and I'd rather shoot divers and sea ducks in open water from a layout than either of the others.

I guess it all boils down to adventure, and there's just no excitement in pulling a trailer loaded full of decoys into a feed field and waiting for sunrise.

Yep. For me its also a bigger challenge shooting ducks than geese. I'm damn near RMFC when it comes to field goose shooting.

I'm with ya here Ron. The simplicity of duck hunting is appealing. As is, as stated above, watching the sun rise over the water

You haven't experienced simplicity until you drive into a field, set out the decoys and blinds and you're good to go. Plus the sunrise can be just as good out of a field.

True but imagine sitting or standing by a tree kicking water to make little ripples while flat out wailing on your duck call and getting the 200 to land within gun range. :)
