I've narrowed it down to either the gun, or the schoolgirl reaction I get when a flock of birds comes in.
I'm getting a Benelli next month, so I shouldn't miss anymore.
We're all guilty of the schoolgirl reaction from time to time. My most recent one was on a flock of snows this spring. Was actually 3 guys guilty of it, we had about 25 snows pour right into the kill hole about 25 yards out and when all the shots were fired there was only a lone cripple to be had. We got our shit together after that and ground out a 35 bird day.
I called in a flock of 9 geese last September. The first ever real flock I got to work...and it was beautiful. They all locked up right for the hole and when 4 or 5 touched the water 20 yards out I called the shot. It was me my dad and my buddy. Me and my buddy could see them the hole time, but my dad could not. When I called the shot me and my buddy opened up. My dad stayed sitting and only had a small path through the cattails he could see. Me and my buddy each shot 2 times before my dad could see one. Then one passed 15 yards in front of him and he folded it. (This was his first goose hunt and first goose) by this time me and my buddy were empty and the geese that had landed were just getting moving again. I grabbed for a 4th and I got it James in just in time for the last one to fly across the same path the one my dad killed. Got the bead on just in time for my dad to shoot and fold it. (Only his second shot) Now it's all over and I look to the water to see 2 dead geese 15 yards in front of my dad and 0 anywhere else.
He also shot another single later on. I did manage one, but I still never hear the end of that one.
