My thought being they measure the speed of some thing coming at you or going away, but that's all they can do. So if a car is at a 45 degree angle to you, it is going to be going slower toward/away your point of reference, right?

this is physics, why are you asking a cop?

did you lose those fingers in shop class?
without getting into the whole procedure we use, I'll just say that any officer worth his weight in salt will position his patrol car to avoid extreme anglesGoldfish wrote:he tried to grab the last donut.capt1972 wrote:Redbeard wrote:capt1972 wrote:Goldfish wrote:I've been wondering this for a while now. yupGoldfish wrote:I figured as much. Thanks. I was rounding a bend and a trooper was in the median on the way onto work today and I thought there was no way he'd get a good reading before someone slowed down at that angle, but he was down in the grass and I was in a truck so maybe cars couldn't see him that soon.
Thanks red.

oh we have em and they work great for what they are. But ours are handheld. Our radar antennas are mounted in the front and rear of the car. If you're stationary you have to angle your car a bit on the shoulder to hang out the window to use the lidar...because it's a handheld unit. Or stand outside your car to use it. Screw that mess. Radar's easierBrewGUN wrote:Seriously Red, no lidar yet? I would have thought that would be standard issue in CA police cars, hell half the towns here in MI have them.
